Learning a language: what could possibly be more rewarding? You might be considering studying a new language, such as Spanish for example, because you’re about to visit a Spanish-speaking country. Perhaps you met a new friend or love interest whose first language is Spanish; wouldn’t it be great to communicate with them in their native language? Or maybe learning a language other than English is just something you’ve always wanted to do. If so, that’s awesome. No matter what the reason, learning a language is a rich and rewarding experience.
Let’s say you’re planning on visiting a country where English isn’t the native tongue, such as Costa Rica. Maybe you’ve been thinking to yourself, “How can I learn Spanish before I leave on my vacation? Actually, I probably don’t have enough time and I’m sure I can just wing it once I get there.” Well, take it from me when I say that this can be a pretty dicey approach. Think of all the situations where knowing even basic Spanish would come in handy in a country like Costa Rica.
With that in mind, let’s look at a specific situation where having even the most basic grasp on a second language would come in handy. We’ll then look at some helpful online tools that can help you learn Spanish today.
Why Don’t You Learn To Speak Spanish?
Sadly, I’m sure you’ve been out in public before and have heard a native English-speaking person ridicule another with, “Why don’t you learn to speak English?” Well, let’s pretend for a second that you are deep inside Costa Rica, far away from the airport and capitol where it’s possible to find many folks who speak English.
Picture yourself on a dusty dirt path nearly void of helpful road signs. The air hangs thick on your body and your clothes are in a constant state of dampness. You’re tired from the all-night travels that have taken you to this distant yet vibrant country. All you want is to ask for a few directions so you can unpack your bags at your final destination.
This is where learning a language is so incredibly valuable. If you can’t communicate or comprehend words such as, “north, east, kilometers” or numeric values, it’s going to be mighty difficult to understand the locals trying to assist you. I guess this begs the question, “Why don’t you learn to speak Spanish?”
“Learning a Language Before My Trip Would Be Great But …”
